Like everyone else, I am always very happy to share stories of my childhood that involve the Indianapolis 500. Many longtime readers know my story. My father took my two older brothers to the 1964 Indianapolis 500, but he left my mother and me at home in Tennessee. She didn’t really care anything about going, and he figured I was too young to go at the age of five. By the time the 1965 race rolled around, I had pitched such a fit, he ended up taking all of us. I fell in love with the place and the race, and the rest is history.

There is no shortage of lists of superlatives when it comes to the Indianapolis 500. Everyone has their list based strictly on their opinion of best driver ever, best to never win, best to run in a front and rear-engine car, best to…well you get the idea. I am going to add one to the long list of lists, which is also based strictly on my opinion – the best grid ever.

We are a day late, due to coverage of the NTT IndyCar Series race at Barber Motorsports Park, but now I can truly say – Welcome to the Month of May! This is always one of my favorite posts, because it officially kicks off the Month of May. This is the favorite time of year for IndyCar fans. While other races are important in the quest for the Astor Challenge Trophy, which symbolizes the IndyCar championship – the Month of May is all about the Indianapolis 500.
Random Thoughts on Barber

Barber Motorsports Park had another great weekend of hosting the NTT IndyCar Series. The weather was perfect, the crowd was big and the racing was good, with Scott McLaughlin taking the win, and Romain Grosjean finishing second. After a somewhat processional first art of the race, things picked up considerably after the “three-stoppers” pitted. Grosjean said in the post race press-conference that he was very surprised how Alex Palou and Pato O’Ward raced him hard early on. But Grosjean stretched out about a 1.5 second lead by about Lap 25.

It’s another dunny morning from Barber Motorsports Park. The weatherman pretty well called it Rain came through overnight, but if it stormed we never heard it. It pushed through, but it is now a little cooler. It was 57° when we woke up and it should reach a high of 70° – absolutely perfect weather for a race.
