Earlier this week, we learned that this year’s Legends Day will honor the legacy of the famous roadsters at Indianapolis. I always enjoy Legends Day. It’s a low-key affair held on the Saturday, just a little more than twenty-four hours before the Indianapolis 500. It’s a relatively new thing that they’ve been doing for the last decade or so. Vintage cars take to the track around 9:00 that morning. The stands behind the pits are open.

I keep trying to persuade him to come back to the IndyCar blogosphere on a full-time basis, as he was when he was one of the many voices on More Front Wing. A Potential Race For This Past Weekend

Take a good look at the photo below. It’s obviously a picture of a race track. Do you recognize it? The lush green hills might suggest that it’s a track in England, but it certainly doesn’t look like Silverstone or Brands Hatch. It’s not heavily wooded like Road America and there is no large body of water that close to Barber Motorsports Park. One thing is certain – it appears to be a very scenic venue.
IndyCar Strikes Gold With NBC

Unless you live under a rock, you know by now that NBC was the winner in the negotiations for the new IndyCar TV rights package. It is an exclusive three-year deal, which will see a total of eight races per year air on regular NBC, including the Indianapolis 500 along with coverage of Indianapolis 500 Qualifying. The remainder of the races will be carried on NBCSN. All races will be streamed on the NBC Sports app and NBCSports.com, assuming you can authenticate your cable provider. Ancillary programming will be carried on NBC Sports Gold – more on that later.

Last week after the season-opening race at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, I got a text from my brother asking me why Team Penske showed so poorly. I was in a hurry and didn’t have time to explain that their results weren’t really that bad. Josef Newgarden finished seventh, Will Power was tenth and Simon Pagenaud finished thirteenth. But when your team is used to competing for wins and championships, I guess those results were a little disappointing.

It used to be that whenever sports facilities made upgrades or changes to their venue, they would just toss the old stuff out because it was considered to be, well…junk. Then somewhere along the way, someone much smarter than I am figured out that fans would pay a pretty penny to add the “junk” to their sports memorabilia collection.
Working Through The Growing Pains

When the Verizon IndyCar Series kicked off its season this past weekend, there were four new teams represented on the grid. I’m not sure when the last time that many new teams have started a season, but I’m going to guess it was the unification of 2008 when Dale Coyne Racing, KV Racing, Newman/Haas, HVM and Conquest Racing all came over from Champ Car.
