It’s that time of year again, where I pack up the ol’ keyboard to take a little bit of a break for Christmas. This will be the twelfth Christmas since I started this site. I must say that I’ve never been more glad to put a bow on a year and an IndyCar season, as I have been this year.

The Game of Musical Chairs Plays On

The other day at work I made a comment to a twenty-something about how when the music stops, not everyone is going to have a chair. She looked at me like I had two heads. Realizing she was confused, I felt the need to clarify what I was talking about. I asked if she was familiar with the game Musical Chairs. She intensified the confused look on her face like a dog looking at a typewriter.

Last week, car No. 26 got a serious upgrade. However, it wasn’t the way that I thought it would go. Colton Herta will drive the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda in the 2021 season. For the past three seasons, the No. 26 Andretti Autosport car had been piloted by Zach Veach. I mean no disrespect to Zach Veach, the person. Time waits for no one. For someone like me who lives by the mantra that Change is Bad, I find it a very unsettling truth that Father Time waits for no one. We are all getting older. Sometimes I look in the mirror and wonder who that old looking guy is that’s staring back. Every day, we get some harsh reminder that time is moving on at an unrelenting pace.

We’ve Been Down This Road Before

This past Saturday morning, we awoke to the rumors that despite negotiations throughout most of the year – Ferrari had decided to forego an opportunity to join the NTT IndyCar Series as an engine manufacturer, beginning in 2023. These rumors were all from Italian news sources, and no confirmation came from this side of the Atlantic.

Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks

Is an old dog ever really too old to learn a new trick? Are people ever too old to learn something new? Like many that come here to this site, I like to think of myself as fairly knowledgeable about the history of the Indianapolis 500. Many people I know can recite a lot of facts and trivial tidbits going as far back as the 1970s, but beyond that – things get a little fuzzy for them.
