We fans of the Verizon IndyCar Series can be a cynical bunch. We complain a lot and many times for very good reasons. But this week, we reached a milestone that we can all be thankful for. Monday marked six months until the 99th Running of the Indianapolis 500. That means we are now closer to the next one than we are to the memorable finish we witnessed a little more than half a year ago.

There is a myth going around that needs to be exposed. For months; IndyCar fans, forums and websites have been lamenting the fact that this is a terribly long offseason that is unsurpassed in the history of motor sports. I have been just as guilty as everyone else claiming that this offseason is way too long and that a cure for Ebola may be found before the Verizon IndyCar Series turns another wheel in competition.
Who Has Paid Their Dues More?

Today’s society is filled with stories chanting with the phrase “…they haven’t paid their dues”. Whether it’s Taylor Swift, Johnny Manziel or Ryan Briscoe; there are plenty of examples where detractors scoff at any success that has come their way and write it off simply as luck. Those detractors cannot make that same claim against Verizon IndyCar driver Justin Wilson.
Change In A Roundabout Way

Throughout the years, it has been well-documented how much I despise change. I have lived my life under the mantra "Change is bad". If truth be known, I’m not quite as averse to change as it comes across. I love the latest technological gadgets. I can’t wait until the price of Ultra HD television falls within my budget. But even with technology, sometimes they change things just for change sake. Was it really necessary to do away with the Start button in Windows 8? Apparently not, since they put it back with Windows 8.1.

This past Friday, legendary driver AJ Foyt was admitted to the hospital with sporadic chest pain. The initial tests showed very little, but a procedure this past Monday showed blockages in arteries that had given Foyt problems in recent years. On Wednesday, he underwent triple bypass surgery. At last report, the fiery Texan was doing well and was expected to be released by Monday.
A Friend To IndyCar Moves On

The name Gillian Zucker probably doesn’t resonate with the casual racing fan. Hard-core fans of the Verizon IndyCar Series might have a hard time placing her name. Even those that follow the business side of the sport, who know the names of Hulman, George, Belskus, Bernard and Miles might pause when her name is mentioned. That’s a shame, because she has been a very good friend to IndyCar over the years.
