The other night, I was reading Robin Miller’s Mailbag. Someone had asked a question about potential crash damage after the Texas race, heading into the Month of May. Their question centered on how much this would affect the small-budget teams in the NTT IndyCar Series. Normally I would not have paid much attention to this question, because Miller’s answer was fairly predictable – saying that it would affect the smaller teams much more than the larger teams.

In last Friday’s post, I mentioned that we have enjoyed watching Formula 1: Drive to Survive on Netflix. Seasons One and Two cover the 2018 and 2019 Formula One seasons respectively. It was confirmed over the weekend that Season Three, covering the truncated 2020 season, will drop in on March 19. If you haven’t watched it, now would be a good time to catch the first two seasons – just before the third season becomes available. This is an excellent series and I wish something similar could be produced on IndyCar – perhaps available on Peacock.
IndyCar Drivers Favor Continuity

With a little down-time on our hands recently, we have binge-watched the excellent Netflix series Formula 1: Drive to Survive. If you have not seen this, I highly recommend that you do. I once followed Formula One almost as closely as I did IndyCar. Somewhere along the way, I lost interest in the global series. I got turned off by the arrogance and the fact that only one or two drivers stood any chance of winning a race. The advanced technology was interesting, but that can only hold your attention for so long. I wanted to see competition, and I wasn’t getting it from Formula One.
Bob Jenkins Needs Us Now

If you are any type of racing fan, you know the voice of Bob Jenkins. Since the late seventies, his voice has brought live racing events, as well as commentary, to radio listeners and TV viewers alike. He hosted a weekly magazine show on ESPN called SpeedWeek, which featured stories from all forms of racing. In the days before the internet, it was about the only way a racing fan could stay up to date with what was going on in the racing world. Jenkins co-hosted the show with the late Larry Nuber from 1983 until Nuber left the show in 1989. Jenkins remained as host until the show went off the air in 1997.
Giving the One-Off Car a Boost

Normally, you wouldn’t pay a whole lot of attention to the announcement regarding the driver of the third Foyt car for the Indianapolis 500. While the Foyt team generally has a decent primary car (the famous No. 14) at Indianapolis – the third Foyt car is usually akin to getting to play quarterback for the New York Jets or the Jacksonville Jaguars. You can’t pass it up, but you sure wish you had other opportunities.
