For those of you who chastised me on Monday for saying Sunday’s Honda Indy Grand Prix from Barber Motorsports Park was a boring race, I will almost completely retract the statement…almost. Susan and I watched the full replay on Monday night. There was a lot more passing at other parts of the track than I realized. I was aware that Montoya had moved up quickly because I kept watching every time he went by and noticed when he was picking up spots. What I was not aware of, was that Marco Andretti was almost as impressive with his run.

For the second weekend in a row, the Verizon IndyCar series tried to put on a snoozer of a race. That was before Graham Rahal and Simon Pagenaud decided to spice things up. After a rocky start to the race, Simon Pagenaud checked out. With no yellows after the aborted attempts, Pagenaud extended his lead. It was boring up front, but Graham Rahal, who started sixth, kept working his way up to the front.

Well, so much for predictions. I said that at least one Foyt car would make the Firestone Fast Six and neither one made it out of the first round of qualifying. Jack Hawksworth will start fourteenth and Takuma Sato will go off in the sixteenth starting spot in tomorrow’s Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.

The third practice for the Verizon IndyCar Series is now complete and the results looked a lot more familiar than yesterday’s. Will Power paced the field with a time of 1:07.0198. Scott Dixon was second. James Hinchcliffe was the fastest Honda, setting the third quickest time of 1:07.1325, followed by fellow Honda diver Carlos Muñoz. Simon Pagenaud rounded out the Top Five, giving Roger Penske two cars in the Top Five.
