It’s that time of year again to push away from the keyboard, take a short break and enjoy everything the Christmas season has to offer. I may or may not be a Clark Griswold (Susan can probably give a more definitive answer), but at my ripe old age of fifty-seven – I still enjoy Christmas. Sometimes I almost feel as if I have to apologize, but I had a very happy childhood. Looking back, my happiest childhood memories involved Christmas and the Indianapolis 500.

Most readers of this site know how much I love the Indianapolis 500. They know that I attended my first “500” in 1965 and every race between 1967-72, before going on a twenty-year hiatus between races. Since 1992, I’ve missed seven races and have not missed one since 2002. I also attended qualifying for the 2002 Formula One race at IMS, along with both Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis.
A Rational Voice On IndyCar Canopies

If you happened to catch Trackside a week ago on Dec 8, you heard TV racing analyst and former driver Derek Daly giving his opinion on the controversial subject of putting canopies onto open-wheel cars such as Indy cars and Formula One cars. I have stated my opinion on the touchy subject many times, but it was good to hear the opinion of someone other than a blogger or former blogger. Not only is Daly a former driver in CART and Formula One, but he has a vested interest in the current form of IndyCar racing being the safest it can possibly be – his son, Conor, will be a full-time driver next season in the Verizon IndyCar Series.
An Early Christmas Present From Dale Coyne
Posted in IndyCar on December 14, 2015 by Oilpressure
Christmas came early this year for Conor Daly, Bryan Clauson and Most IndyCar fans everywhere when Dale Coyne announced some of his plans for the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season. A Dale Coyne press conference in December is a rare thing. Normally, Coyne doesn’t announce his driver lineup until the Thursday before the season-opening race. So you know something is special to bring Coyne out in public before Christmas.
Welcome Back, Mikhail Aleshin!

Earlier this week, we learned that Mikhail Aleshin will return to Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and the Verizon IndyCar Series for the 2016 season. I’ll admit that when Aleshin was first announced for the 2014 season, my first thought was “who?” and my second thought was “great, another unqualified foreign driver that no one has heard of that bought his way into a ride”. I don’t think I was alone.
The Power Of A Slick Presentation
Posted in IndyCar on December 9, 2015 by Oilpressure
Sometimes, my day job requires me to attend certain lunch functions where I find myself in the company of some of the movers and shakers in the Nashville area. Keep in mind; I’m there to see them. They are not there to see me. I am not in the movers and shakers club. Most of these events hold about as much allure to me as hitting myself in the head with a hammer, but my job requires my presence.
