History Keeps Repeating Itself

There is an old saying out there that conveys the message that those who ignore history, are doomed to repeat it. Every few years, the NTT IndyCar Series will figure out that it is not a good idea to hold an IndyCar race over the Independence Day weekend – that’s the Fourth of July weekend, for those that are historically challenged. But as soon as they learn the evils of not avoiding that weekend, they slip up and do it again. History just keeps repeating itself, in a never-ending cycle.

If you are a Seinfeld fan like me, your mind probably went to the same place mine did, when I typed out that headline. I couldn’t help but think back to the episode about the guy that always referred to himself in the third person. “Jimmy is hot on Elaine”. “Jimmy is getting mad”. Jimmy is going to get you Kramer”.

It used to be that disagreeing with someone was completely acceptable among mature adults. Recently, however, disagreeing with someone brings outrage, name-calling and public shaming – simply due to a difference of opinion. Fortunately, most readers here are still very reasonable and able to share different opinions without incurring the wrath of others.

After today, I’ll finally quit talking about Road America – at least for a while. The pressure is now on from all of my raving about it. I hope he likes it, otherwise I’ll get blamed for bad advice.

Another successful trip to Road America is in the books. If you’ve never been here before, you’re probably a little tired of the way Susan and I rave about it. If you’ve been here – you get it. Much like post-Indianapolis 500 blues is a real thing, so is the depression we feel as we pack up and head back home today, after being up here since Thursday.

If you were wondering if Team Penske was snake-bit, wonder no more. After leading thirty-two of fifty-laps, Josef Newgarden saw that lead disappear on a restart at the beginning of lap fifty-four. Newgarden explained afterwards that he could not get the car to shift into sixth, while heading into Turn One. That allowed Alex Palou to sweep past Newgarden on the outside, just before Turn One. Newgarden later explained the car then got stuck in first gear and he mainly focused on not getting collected . Newgarden finished twenty-first.

A Little Bit of Heaven

Susan
By Susan Phillips

Earlier in the year George asked me where I wanted to go for a summer vacation. Being a beach girl, I began looking at beach vacations. The thought of ocean sunsets and walks on the beach was very appealing to me. Maybe I’ve been in a pensive mood and want to reflect on where I have been in the last year and where I am going in the future—and naturally being selective about places that give me strength and peace. Road America is one such place for me. It’s a place where I’d like to lie in the grass and look up at the clear, blue sky, and relax. Road America always comes in the IndyCar schedule just when I need it. We always had post-Indy 500 blues, but now that we have decided to make Road America part of our annual race schedule, it cuts some of the blues and gives us something very special to look forward to.
