For years I’ve made it clear that I don’t consider myself a journalist in any shape, form or fashion. I’m a blogger, which means that I’m a fan that writes about being a fan. I’m very fortunate that I get IndyCar credentials, but I always try to remember my place and never overstep my bounds when I’m at races. I realize those credentials can be taken away if I abuse my privileges.

I am told that The Oscars aired last night. Well, I know they did because my wife likes to get on Facebook and critique the fashion on the Red Carpet, much to the chagrin of most of her male followers. But I didn’t watch them. I care nothing about the fashions in Hollywood and even less about The Oscars. It has now devolved into nothing but a chance for performers to spew their generally uninformed opinions regarding current events onto the masses, who are tuning in to be entertained and not lectured to. If you want to stir a debate among fans of the NTT IndyCar Series, bring up the topic of cockpit protection. You will instantly get a range of opinions; from do nothing because it will change the look of a car, to put a bubble-canopy on the cars and create a survival cell for the driver that would be the envy of NASA.

Many of you seemed to enjoy his purely British take on life as an IndyCar fan in the UK. This past weekend, he asked if he could return and give his views on the International TV Rights Package for the NTT IndyCar Series, which had not been announced yet.

The Pato O’Ward saga with Harding Steinbrenner Racing (HSR) is a strange one. But it didn’t get strange just this week when O’Ward requested and was granted a release from his contract for 2019. No, it got strange a lot earlier than that.

Spring Training at COTA

With a full day of Spring Training yesterday at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas for the NTT IndyCar Series, is it too much of a stretch to say that the offseason is officially over? A quick glance at Tuesday’s weather map shows that a giant swath of heavy downpour and/or snow encompassed a great deal of the Eastern US. That was not the case in Austin.

Less Than Four Weeks and Counting…

As my wife so eloquently revealed last week, I sometimes overdo it watching sports. This past weekend was very cold on Saturday and very rainy on Sunday. Susan was involved in a lot of her cake decorating that she does on the side, so that pretty well gave me carte blanche to watch whatever I wanted.
