For the first time since reunification in February 2008, there will be open-wheel racing at Portland International Raceway this weekend. Like Road America and Toronto, Portland was one of those races that fell victim to the reunification of IndyCar in February of 2008.

Most of you know I don’t like to comment on politics, whether it be on this site or on social media. Chances are, I’ll alienate and tick off about half of my readers if I throw out my political views – and for what? Does anyone really care what I think about politics? Do I really think I’ll change anyone’s mind? There is enough garbage out there from both sides that I find it unnecessary to throw out one more worthless opinion. I’d rather debate who a third IndyCar engine manufacturer might be or what a certain track needs to do to improve their IndyCar promotional efforts.
Random Thoughts On Gateway

Normally this is the spot where I discuss specifics on how a race was won or lost. I did that late Saturday night after the race. If you want a more in-depth discussion about the race itself, I suggest you read Saturday night’s Gateway Wrap-Up. Today, I’m going to discuss more of the fan experience of going to Gateway as well as other random topics.

The 2018 Bommarito 500 is now in the books. Last year, Will Power was on the pole, crashed on the first lap and was out of the race. This year he stated fourth and won the race. But it was hard and it wasn’t pretty. Sébastien Bourdais crashed in pretty much the same spot that Power did last year on the opening lap.
This Weekend Is All A Blur
Posted in IndyCar on August 25, 2018 by OilpressureI hit the big 6-0 this year, and I haven’t thought much about my age or what all those years mean—I’m just glad I’m here and enjoying relatively good health—until lately. One morning at 4 am, I was driving on a two-lane road to one of my stores for work in a small town, and I came face-to-face with a car and on the periphery of my vision, I saw a group of deer beside the road. As the car approached, all I saw was headlight flare and as I struggled to make sure I was between the lines, the deer started moving. It was one of those defining moments that something was not right with my vision.
It’s Race Day At Gateway Motorsports Park

Greetings from a much warmer Gateway Motorsports Park. As promised, the typical temperatures for August have returned after an unusually cool and pleasant evening last night. The crowd for yesterday and last night was kept away from the downpour of yesterday morning and the lingering showers throughout the day. But as we were pulling into the track today – there was much more of a buzz than we saw yesterday.
Final Gateway Practice Under Clear Skies

An ugly day of rain and clouds at Gateway Motorsports Park, turned into a beautiful night at the race track. The clouds cleared away, the sun came out and it turned into a perfect evening. Susan and I went over and sat in the stands just before practice got underway. As I usually do when I come to the Midwest, I was on a mission for a breaded pork tenderloin. Fortunately, I found one – and it was mighty tasty. Plus, it was fresh – right out of the fryer.
