After watching the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg yesterday, which was won by Team Penske driver Juan Montoya; I talked to a couple of friends about the race, scanned social media, thought about what I had watched – and still wasn’t sure what I thought about what had just transpired. Let’s just say it was a mixed bag for me.

Our long nightmarish offseason is officially over today. It has been 209 days since an IndyCar turned a wheel in competition. Regardless of the reason, that’s too long. One of the more intriguing signings for the opening race at St. Petersburg this weekend, is that of Simona de Silvestro at Andretti Autosport. Spring Training for the Verizon IndyCar Series is now officially in the books. Rational people will say that it’s way too early to draw any conclusions on anything that went on at Barber Motorsports Park over the last two days; but we fans are not always that rational. We peer over speed charts for any indication on who may have an edge next weekend when things get serious at St. Petersburg.

Over the years, I’ve never tried to hide the fact that I am a fan of Team Penske. While some seem to think of Roger Penske as the devil and mysteriously blame him for the dearth of ovals on the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule; I shudder to think where this series would be without him.
