Should IndyCar Give Up On The Northeast?

It’s a shame that the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season is already underway and there is still a great deal of uncertainty whether one of its scheduled events will actually take place. The Grand Prix of Boston scheduled for September 4th, is still dealing with resistance from a lot of the local residents that flat-out do not want the event to happen. Personally, I think it’ll happen – at least for this year. But after that, I think all bets are off.

The 2016 Indianapolis 500 got a little more colorful this past Tuesday, when it was announced that the Team Penske car of Simon Pagenaud would carry sponsorship from Menards for the two races in the month of May, as well as the race at Road America.

The Burger Bash Gets A Makeover

For those that read this site and/or are regular listeners to Trackside, you’ve undoubtedly at least heard of the Carb Night Burger Bash – even if you’ve never attended. The name says it all. It takes place on the evening of Carb Day – the Friday before the Indianapolis 500. There are burgers and milkshakes available for purchase and there is one underlying theme – anything to do with the Indianapolis 500.

An Enclosed Cockpit I Could Live With

Following the fatal injuries to Dan Wheldon in the 2011 IndyCar finale at Las Vegas, there was an immediate and knee-jerk outcry for all open wheel cars to have some sort of enclosed cockpit. There was no adequate solution proposed by this side, but there were many reasonable arguments to suggest that the unintended consequences of an enclosed canopy could pose many more problems than it could solve.

After Will Power missed the opening round of the Verizon IndyCar Series season reportedly due to a concussion; it was revealed on Wednesday that it was actually due to an inner ear infection. As expected, there were a few that took to social media to blame IndyCar for misdiagnosing Power.
