As we IndyCar fans look back on 2015, there really is a lot to be thankful for. Of course, there was also tragedy as we lost Justin Wilson to a fluke accident at Pocono in August. But we can be thankful that the IndyCar community stepped up and raised over $600,000 for the care of his young children. The efforts by Graham Rahal and several others shows the strong bond among those who are competitors on the track, but close friends off of it.

Last week, Racer.com ran a story about Andretti Autosport running at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) for a team test earlier in the week. Marco Andretti was quoted throughout the article discussing how fun the new configuration at Phoenix is for a driver. The article also speculated that Arie Luyendyk’s twenty year-old record at PIR may be in jeopardy, when the series returns in the spring after a ten-year absence.

Just because it’s the offseason, you didn’t think that One Take Only was on hiatus, did you? For those that don’t know or have been trying to forget, One Take Only is the videoblog of Oilpressure.com. My longtime friend, John McLallen, and I set up the camera in my backyard and just start talking racing. Our conversations are always unrehearsed, unscripted and unedited. They are also generally uninteresting. When we stop, we turn off the camera and that’s what we have – hence the name One Take Only. Some love these, some actually despise them. You decide.

Is IndyCar Too Indy-Centric?

Posted in IndyCar on November 18, 2015 by Oilpressure

Recently, there has been a growing feeling among some fans that the Verizon IndyCar Series is too Indy-centric; meaning that the series places way too much importance on the Indianapolis 500. I will say right now that I am not one who thinks this. But there are some people that I have a great deal of respect for that do feel this way, so I think it’s something that is worth discussing.

A Surprising Laugh From IndyCar

Given the gravity of the events in Paris over the weekend, I thought it would be nice to have a more lighthearted post today. That’s not to make light of the situation at all. Along with the horror we saw throughout the weekend, there is also the numbing fact that these attacks will continue to happen across the globe as well as here in America. There has been much debate on what America’s next step should be. But this is not a political site, but an IndyCar site. With that in mind, I’ll offer a quick relief from the serious discussions of the weekend.

Mark Miles Announces His Choice

Recently, another website accused me of being a cheerleader for all things IndyCar. Personally, I don’t agree with that sentiment – but if one person thinks that, there are possibly others that do as well. If you are one that thinks that way, you might want to skip today’s post because I’m going to give kudos to IndyCar on their choice to replace former IndyCar president Derrick Walker. But I’ll also discuss why some may not be all-in on this pick.

Silly Season: Schmidt Peterson Motorsports

This is the fifth in a series of posts I’ve written regarding the 2015-16 silly season. It’s been a few weeks since my last one, but schedule announcements and other topics took precedence over my meanderings about what might happen on teams that may or may not have an open seat for next season. Like the other four in this series, this is not a prediction of what I think will happen. Instead it is simply me venting on what I think should happen. There’s a big difference. Today’s post deals with my wish-list for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.
