Now that I’ve had a day or so to reflect on Sunday’s Indianapolis 500, it’s sinking in on what a good race Simon Pagenaud drove. From the moment Matt Damon and Christian Bale both waved the green flags, Pagenaud got a good jump on the rest of the front row and hardly ever looked back after the first corner.

Simon Pagenaud Sweeps The Month of May

What quite honestly started out as a boring parade, turned out to be a finish for the ages. For the last fourteen laps, Simon Pagenaud and Alexander Rossi went back and forth and swapped the lead a couple of times, with Pagenaud emerging as the winner.

The Calm Before the Race

I’ve always liked Legends Day at IMS. I don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn and rush to the track and it is a pretty laid-back day. Today George’s family comes in and they become absorbed in the annual history and technology behind racing. Don’t get me started about the annual day-long trip to the IMS Museum where every valve, strut, and livery are closely examined in the way only engineers and long-time race fans can do. Sometime today or tonight my son, Eric will arrive and the friend he was going to bring had to back out at the last minute due to a family illness, so I’m not sure who is coming with him.

Good Morning From Legends Day

Good morning from a sunny and steamy Indianapolis Motor Speedway. As I type, the two-seater is giving rides to some lucky people. The driver’s meeting starts at 10:30 and then my favorite part – the vintage cars – are at 11:15.

Carb Day Rolls On

Despite a heavy thunderstorm that rolled through the Indianapolis Motor Speedway around 9:00 this morning, as soon as the lightning subsided, the fans rolled through the gates. We correctly assumed that practice would be slightly delayed, so we stayed at the hotel a little longer.
