A very leisurely drive this morning turned into a nightmare once I arrived here. I know this ranks up there as a first-world problem, but the credential office where the parking passes are distributed to the media was an absolute clusterf***. Last week at Pocono, I walked in showed my ID, they retrieved an envelope and I was out in about 45 seconds. This took fifty minutes. And it wasn’t because I was just a lowly blogger. Robin Miller and Jim Ayello with the IndyStar were stuck in line with me. So, my first impression was not a great one.

Once again, I am on the road this morning on my way to a race track. Unlike last Friday where I ended up traveling over 900 miles from Nashville to Pocono via Indianapolis. This weekend is much more manageable. In fact, it started last night when I left work and drove to western Kentucky, where Susan has been working this week. I stayed with her last night and I’m now on my way to Gateway Motorsports Park, located just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis in Madison, IL. She will work today and join me at the track late this afternoon.
Tony Kanaan Can Still Drive

This past weekend, we heard the news that many of us had long suspected when Tony Kanaan told Dave Furst, of the Advanced Auto Parts IndyCar Radio Network, that he will be a free-agent for 2018. He also made it clear to Furst and everyone listening that he fully intends to drive in 2018 and that he is not washed up. Count me as one who agrees with Kanaan.
Random Thoughts On Pocono

With such a long stretch of green flag racing in the first half of the race, I’m not sure how the production looked on television. What I can say is that from my vantage point, it seemed that they were running on the ragged edge. Being live at the track gives you more of a sense of speed than watching on the couch at home and you just have the sense that the drivers are only a wiggle away from stuffing a car into the fence.
