It’s Race Day At Barber!

If it was possible to improve on the weather from yesterday, they’ve managed to do it today. I’ve been to every Verizon IndyCar race here and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more beautiful day here. Suffice it to say, it’s a perfect day to be at a race track.

I was a little worried on Friday as the crowd seemed a little light. Normally, the Friday crowds here are bigger than what they had this past Friday. It could’ve been a function of the bad weather prediction. They were right. It poured and was miserable. But yesterday’s sunny skies brought out a good Saturday crowd and the line into the park was backed out onto Rex Lake Boulevard, which runs adjacent to the park. All the volunteers I talked to this morning have been told to expect a record crowd today. Let’s hope so.

As I type, the final race for the Pirelli World Challenge is about to start, with all classes running. It will be a fifty-minute timed race and will be completed before the Verizon IndyCar Series takes the track 10:30 for the final thirty-minute practice before this afternoon’s race. After the IndyCar practice, the second Pro Mazda race of the weekend will start at 11:15, before the second Indy Lights race goes off at 12:20. The NBCSN broadcast begins at 2:00 and the green flag drops somewhere just after 2:30. All times local (central).

With that, I’m going to go wander the paddock. I may or may not have something up here after the final practice, but I’ll definitely be back here after the race for a wrap-up. In the meantime you can follow me (@Oilpressureblog) and Susan (@MrsOilpressure) on Twitter for random photos and comments throughout the day. I will throw out the caveat that it is very hard to tweet here during the race due to cell reception, but we’ll be trying. Check back later.
