Mark Miles and Derrick Walker addressed the media regarding last-minute qualification changes. First, there will be no points awarded for qualifying as was done last year. That’s huge because there are enough points awarded for the pole-sitter and front row to significantly alter the point standings.

What started as a very unfunny and frightening crash by Ed Carpenter this morning, has turned into a comedy of errors as IndyCar officials have been changing the rules by the minute.

The Rain Man Cometh

Qualifying began and a total of two cars qualified when the rains came. Ryan Hunter-Reay is on the provisional pole with a four-lap average speed of 229.845 mph. The No.18 of Carlos Huertas is the only other qualified car at the moment with an average speed of 228.235. Scott Dixon was two laps into his qualifying run when the rain started. Dixon’s first lap was 231.357. His second lap fell off to 225.941, perhaps due to moisture on the track. Once the rain started, it didn’t mess around. It poured. Within a matter of minutes, the track was lost. A reflection on the race track is not what we want to see.

Good morning from a cloudy, and damp Indianapolis Motor Speedway. While the weatherman was kind to us yesterday for Fast Friday, we are getting payback this morning. A pretty impressive storm moved through the area last night. When we got out of our restaurant, it was a downpour. On the drive back to the hotel, we were treated to quite a show of lightening strikes. But by the time we got back to the hotel, the rain had pretty much stopped. I was hoping that was the end of it. Unfortunately, it was raining again when we woke up.
Fast Friday Wrap-Up

Well, Fast Friday ended up being uneventful, and I don’t mind that. There was a stiff breeze for most of the day and that probably held the speeds down. Fortunately, the cars were held down also. For the first time since Tuesday, no cars went airborne today. In fact, there were no incidents at all. There were six yellows the entire day – all for track inspection.
The Calm Before The Storm

There are now roughly two hours remaining for Fast Friday. I hope I’m not putting a curse on anything by saying this, but it has been uneventful so far. Scott Dixon has turned the fastest time of the month at 230.643 mph. There are currently four drivers over the 230 mph mark. Aside from Dixon, they are Tony Kanaan, Marco Andretti and Sage Karam. There are five Hondas in the Top Ten Unfortunately for Honda, except for Marco the Hondas make up most of the bottom half of the Top-Ten.
