If you plan to be at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend, you’ll want to check out the IMS Museum. That has been a tradition in our family for the last couple of decades. I always have at least one of my two brothers come to the race each season, they both have tickets very close to my section in Stand A – the section we sat in growing up in the sixties and seventies. Sometimes both brothers come to the race, but I’m not sure that has happened since 2018.

Scott Dixon moved into the history books yesterday, by winning his fifth Indianapolis 500 pole and his second in a row. By doing so he moves into sole possession of second-place and now trails only Rick Mears, who has six. He did it in grand fashion – clocking off a four-lap average speed of 234.046 mph. That also is good for second place, trailing only Arie Luyendyk’s four-lap track record of 236.986 mph set in 1996 as a second-day qualifier; so technically you can say that Dixon is the fastest pole-winner ever.

Good afternoon from a cool, breezy and slightly overcast Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With no track activity until 12:30, we took advantage and slept in. We are going to need that sleep, considering that Pole Qualifying will not end until 6:00 pm. I’ll need to write some and then hit the road. I have to be at work in the morning.
An Odd Ending to a Strange Day

It’s about 4:30 pm EDT as I type this. Track officials have not called the rest of the day a washout, but I will. It is supposed to rain for another hour, and it looks as if they have “lost the track”. Once that happens, it takes roughly two hours to dry. Even if it stopped raining right now, they wouldn’t have it dry in time for the 5:50 pm gun…unless they change the rules.
