It’s Qualifying Day at IMS

Good morning from a dry, but humid Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With the potential of rain later today and a lot of sitting around, Susan decided to stay behind and rest up. She was not up to a potential ten-hour day at the track, so she may come later.

I met my good friend Paul Dalbey for breakfast at Charlie Brown’s and managed to stuff myself with Eggs Benedict, pancakes and hash-browns. Practice started while we were still seated, so we started watching on the phone.

I am now at the track and Group Two is out on track now. While we were still at breakfast, we saw Jimmie Johnson turn a fast lap of 233.961 mph. Now that I am at the track, that is just the third quickest lap of the practice session. Ed Carpenter currently sits atop of the scoring pylon with top speed of 234.410 mph. Johnson’s teammate, Scott Dixon is second quick with a speed of 234.093 mph.

As I type, the checkered flag has fallen on practice, and the top speeds have held. Alex Palou and Callum Ilott round out the Top-Five.

Now we wait for an hour and a half for qualifying to start. In the meantime, here is a screenshot of the local radar at 9:30 am EDT. The blue dot is me. It doesn’t look good.

I am going to go roam the garage area. Hopefully we can get something in today, but the radar is ominous. Susan may be the smartest of us all. Please check back later.
