Since the IndyCar Grand Prix was introduced to the NT IndyCar Series schedule in 2014, I’ve said it was a boring race. That’s because it was. For the first time in five years, today’s race bucked that trend. A lot of things stayed the same. Team Penske won for the fifth year in a row. Chevy won for the fifth year in a row, and there are still only two drivers that have ever won this race – Will Power and Simon Pagenaud.

It is a little before 2:00 as I type, but we have actually been on the grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since about 10:00. Once we got here, instead of typing up a post, we dropped off our stuff and went straight to the main gift shop in the museum. We bought the obligatory program, this year’s Christmas ornament and Susan bought a T-shirt for her son. We then went trackside for the Morning Warmup and then went and ate lunch. We are just now back in the Media Center as the Indy Lights race is going on.

The Firestone Fast Six in qualifying for tomorrow’s IndyCar Grand Prix, represented a blend of the old and the new. Scott Dixon and Will Power represented the veterans of the group, while Felix Rosenqvist, Jack Harvey, Colton Herta and Ed Jones showed up for the new. While Dixon on the front row was no surprise, Felix Rosenqvist winning his first career pole was.

Good Afternoon From IMS

Good afternoon from a cold and cloudy Indianapolis Motor Speedway!

First a Public Service Announcement – For whatever reason, they have chosen this weekend to close I-65 North of I-465. That has created a massive bottleneck. Traffic was backed up for three miles when we hit it. So much for being here for the second practice.

This weekend marks the sixth time that Indy cars will run on the road course of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Since 2014, this “new” tradition has served as the annual kickoff for the Month of May at IMS. I’m old enough to remember when Opening Day for the Month of May took place on May 1. That was the first day that cars were allowed on track to practice for the Indianapolis 500 – which always took place on May 30, no matter which day of the week that date fell on. It didn’t matter, it was Memorial Day. The only exception to that was when that date fell on a Sunday. Then the race would be run on Monday May 31.

“Beast”– A Review

My lack of being an avid reader has been well-documented here over the years. Most of what I read these days are books pertaining to IndyCar or the Indianapolis 500, but I don’t seem to have much time to read them. OK, that’s not true. I seem to have plenty of time to watch sports and movies, so let’s just say I don’t really have the desire to carve out time to do much reading.

The 2019 Indianapolis 500 Trivia Contest

It’s become an annual event at this site – The Oilpressure.com Trivia Contest. It started out with some fairly tough questions that were multiple choice. It was too easy, because several times there would be multiple entries that were all correct. At some point, I went to short answers. I was surprised by how many nearly correct entries there were even then. A couple of years ago, I decided to really toughen things up with some of the most obscure facts out there.
