It’s Fast Friday at IMS

Good morning from Indianapolis! It’s Fast Friday, which means the series allows teams to turn up the boost in preparation for Qualifying tomorrow and the run for the pole on Sunday. We will get to the track around 9:30 or 10:00 this morning, and plan on being here all day.

It’s Time for Double-Points to Go!

Mrs. Oilpressure and I are on our way to IMS this morning, to catch a day of practice today, Fast Friday tomorrow and then the Qualifying weekend. Since today is a travel day and we’re not real sure when we get to the track, we won’t start doing our posting from the track until Friday. The qualifying format has changed and I’ll get more into that in tomorrow’s post, also. But one of the changes dovetails into my topic today – double points.

My Most Memorable IMS Moment

As I’ve been making pilgrimages to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1965, I have built up a lifetime of memories. Between going to Pole Day and Race Day every year through 1972, some of the greatest and most vivid memories of my childhood took place on the grounds of IMS. As an adult, I returned to the race for the first time in 1992, with my first wife who never enjoyed it, nor did she understand my fascination with racing. The "watching cars go around in a circle" scenario was thrown up in my face way too often. There’s a reason we got divorced in 1996.

Too Much, Too Soon

We’ve all seen countless examples of a young athlete scoring a huge payday; yet not being prepared to handle that wealth, as well as the fame that goes with it. The one and done concept in college basketball has seen multiple teenage athletes from deprived backgrounds, handed millions of dollars. More times than not, the money is squandered away about as fast as it hits their account.

Random Thoughts on the GMR Grand Prix

It is now Sunday morning as I type this, while I am still in my Indianapolis hotel room. I’ve had a night to ponder what I witnessed on Saturday in the GMR Grand Prix, and I still think it was one of the craziest races I’ve ever seen – much less, been to in person.

A Wild & Crazy Day at IMS

Good morning from a currently sunny Indianapolis Motor Speedway! However, weather is coming. The first band is supposed to move through around Noon local time (EDT). A round of thunderstorms is expected to move through around 4:00 pm.
