The second practice is now complete. It took place with only two slight incidents. One was when Rodolfo Gonzalez spun and then later on, Luca Filippi got off course. Both red-flags required little downtime. The Top-Five showed no real surprises. Will Power led the session, followed by Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon, Simon Pagenaud and Sébastien Bourdais. Again, the fastest Honda was seventh quick – this time by James Hinchcliffe.

Good morning from a soggy Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham. As promised, the rains showed up around 2:00 am – and did they ever? The rain was beating against our hotel window. I got up and looked out and could barely see the parking lot. It was one of those rains that was coming down in sheets. More than an inch of rain fell at the track in a short span. The good news is, that the sun came out earlier this morning. It’s currently overcast and 66-degrees at the moment, as the sun looks like it’s trying to break through. A quick glimpse of the radar shows nothing imminent, but there is a nasty looking cell in Louisiana that looks like it could be here very late this afternoon or early evening. The forecast for tomorrow still looks very good. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
Welcome To Barber Motorsports Park

Welcome to a sunny and surprisingly warm barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, AL. I realize we’re three hours due south of Nashville, but I’m surprised how warm it is here. When we left Nashville this morning, it was a chilly 43-degrees. My phone says it is currently 72 here, but it feels much warmer than that. I may have to get rid of the sweatshirt I was wearing this morning.
Barber Preview

This weekend begins the second of our six in-person racing weekends in seven weeks, as Susan and I head down to Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. Although there is to be no on-track activity for the Verizon IndyCar Series today, there will be eleven hours of straight on-track activity with all of the various support series that will be on hand; including the Pirelli World Challenge, US F2000, the Mazda Pro Series and of course, Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires. If you’re at a race track with cars running, that’s a pretty good day in my book.
A Good Problem To Have

Well, IndyCar fans finally got their wish this past weekend. Conor Daly was in an IndyCar racing in the Verizon IndyCar Series – if only for one weekend. Through the rumor mill, the likable Hoosier has been linked to every open seat that has come available for the past three seasons. If it were left to fans, Daly would already be an IndyCar veteran at his ripe old age of twenty-three. Fans have been clamoring for a talented American to be added to the series for years.
Random Thoughts On Long Beach

Cynics will say that yesterday’s Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach was a boring race because there was only one yellow and the only pass for the lead all day took place in the pits. I will counter that it was a clean and exciting race throughout the day for that final spot on the podium.
