There is no post today, for a couple of reasons. First, I had a bout of diverticulitis a couple of days ago, and I’m still feeling a little woozy and not over it yet. If you deal with this condition yourself, you know what I’m talking about. Far more importantly, Susan visited with her hematologist on Monday. What she thought was going to be a routine visit, ended up with him laying out some not very good news on what he suspected was going on with her, and why she is still having issues – even though she has had clear scans. I won’t go into detail because they won’t have confirmation until next week. The last two nights have not been very fun in the Oilpressure household – for both reasons – and I got nothing written for today.

It took a while, but we finally watched all of the archived broadcasts from the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg over the weekend. One thing I learned is that I liked James Hinchcliffe on the broadcast better than I was led to believe I would. Those that I spoke with right after the race didn’t have anything really negative to say about Hinch’s debut in the NBC booth – they just didn’t say anything real positive either.
IndyCar Pushes Hybrid Engines Back a Year

Thursday morning, the NTT IndyCar Series announced that the new 2.4-liter twin-turbocharged engine with hybrid technology was being pushed back a year. The engine was to make its debut at the beginning of the 2023 season, and the development is continuing to be right on schedule. The problem? The supply chain issues that have been plaguing our country and the world for the last several months.

This past Monday, Susan and I were on the road back to Nashville, after spending the weekend at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. When you’ve had a fun weekend like we did, it’s always a little sad heading back home to the reality that exists outside of the weekend racing bubble. We were probably about a hundred miles north of Tampa on I-75, when we were saddened even more, when Susan saw on Facebook that Danny Ongais had passed away.
Random Thoughts on St. Petersburg

If the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is any indication of what the 2022 IndyCar season is going to be like, we are in for a treat. Twenty-six cars answered the bell for a season-opener that had six rookie drivers, on a gorgeous day in a beautiful setting in front of a record crowd…plus, it was an interesting and entertaining race that wasn’t settled until the checkered flag flew.

I think George has made no secret of the fact that this has not been my favorite IndyCar race. Street courses have their own special something, but I don’t get it–yet. I think if I go to this race another time and the Nashville Race, my tune will change. I hope next time I go to a street circuit I will be closer to 100 percent health-wise. The walking has been difficult—I’m terribly out of shape and chemo has really messed with my thermostat—I’m either profoundly hot or freezing cold. They say time heals, so we will see.
