First of all, I would like to extend our condolences to those drivers, team members and fans; who fall under the reign of the British Crown. I’ve seen heartfelt tweets from several drivers and former drivers from the United Kingdom, as well as the British Overseas Territories, over the loss of their Queen. I don’t know of anyone who studied the British Empire and the Royal Family, more than my own father did. He was fascinated by British history. Queen Elizabeth II passing away yesterday would have been a very sad day for him.

One of my fellow IndyCar bloggers made an interesting and accurate point before Sunday’s NTT IndyCar Series race at Portland. Mike Silver, of The Pit Window, was on site at Portland last weekend. His post regarding Race Control’s new procedure that allowed the field to accelerate as they were leaving the final turn to take the green flag, was the first I had heard of it. He astutely observed that the lack of chaos in Turn One could make for a boring race. He turned out to be very right. You can access his excellent work under my Blogroll to the right.
Random Thoughts on Portland

On one hand, you really don’t want the season championship to come down to random chaos in one sequence of turns so late in the season. It’s Labor Day weekend. College football has already started and the NFL kicks off next week. Those are all signs that the IndyCar season is winding down. Since Portland began reappearing on the IndyCar schedule in 2018, it had been run over Labor Day weekend. Last year for some reason, it was run on Sep 12 – the weekend after Labor Day.
Who Will Win the Championship?

First of all, a quick update on my wife Susan. She finally came home last Saturday after spending 53 nights away from home, either in hospitals or physical rehab centers. She is much improved, but is still not 100% physically. But at the first of this month, she was not able to walk at all. Now, even though she is a bit wobbly at times – she is able to move about the house quite easily. Unlike Hospital X, the doctors at Vanderbilt were able to find and successfully treat the infection that had been festering in her liver since April. She finally seems to be on the road to recovery.
It’s Pointless to Gripe About the Future

When we first learned that Roger Penske was buying the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, as well as IndyCar – we all joked about how long it would take for someone to claim that Penske has rigged everything for his team to win. That was back in November of 2019. This week, we got full confirmation that the loons and conspiracy theorists are out there in full force. It’s surprising it took this long.
