Although someone probably said it before, the late Bobby Unser is credited with saying “Second-place is the first loser”. A more common phrase is “No one remembers second-place”. Thanks to The IMS Museum’s current special exhibit simply named Second, we have a way to remember some of the more famous cars and drivers who finished second.

To some people, today was a bust. Those people would tell me I was an idiot to burn a vacation day and spend money on a hotel room to come up here and watch service trucks run around the track in a feeble attempt to dry it. To me, it was worth it.
Guess Where I’m Headed Today

Around the first of the month, I mentioned I might have a surprise. Someone said they couldn’t wait to find out what the surprise was. I tried to tamper expectations because it was no big deal. Someone else guessed I had grown a beard. Seriously? The only reason I delayed saying it, was that at the time, it wasn’t certain. Now it is, After a couple of days rest from attending the GMR Grand Prix on the IMS road course, I am back in the car and headed where? IMS, of course! See…I told you it was no big deal, but it is to me.

As has been the case since its inception in 2014, the GMR Grand Prix on the IMS road course is something that whets our appetites for what is to come. I’m not even going to call it an appetizer for the Indianapolis 500 – that’s what the Qualifying Weekend is.

As we returned to the Media Center after today’s race, I saw another media member who will go nameless. He looked at me and uttered “snooze-fest”. I will respectfully disagree.
It’s Race Day at IMS!

Good morning from a cloudy, but pleasant Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I always feel just a little disingenuous claiming “It’s Race Day at IMS” when it is time for the GMR Grand Prix, but it’s a fact. Today’s race at IMS is a points-paying race and now pays just as many points as the Indianapolis 500 will in two weeks.
