This weekend is the Sonsio Grand Prix at Road America, one of our favorite weekends of the year. I remember through the 90s watching IndyCar races at Road America, thinking to myself that I would like to go there someday. That was in the days when the only IndyCar race I ever attended was the Indianapolis 500. This looked so completely different from what I had experienced at IMS, it intrigued me. I knew my wife at the time would never allow such a thing, so it was nothing more than a pipe dream

On Monday, I wrote about some of the surprise teams as I saw it after the first seven races of the 2023 NTT IndyCar Series season. I included the teams of AJ Foyt Enterprises, Junco Holinger Racing and Andretti Enterprises as my pleasant surprises so far this season. You are free to agree or disagree, as this is just my opinion.

After this weekend, we will be at (sort of) the halfway point of the 2023 NTT IndyCar Series season. Road America will mark the eighth race in the seventeen race season. At that point, many in the media will be coming up with their mid-season “report cards”, where each team will be issued a grade on where certain people think they stand.
Something Had to Give

We are only seven races into the 2023 NTT IndyCar Series season, and we already have a driver change. Conor Daly was fired from Ed Carpenter Racing (ECR) on Wednesday. Less than twenty-four hours later, ECR announced that Daly would be replaced by 2012 series champion and 2014 Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay.
