The NTT IndyCar Series has quite the turnaround facing them this weekend. In just five days, they have gone from running a short oval in St. Louis to a natural terrain road course across the country in Portland, Oregon. I think some teams went back to their respective shops just after Sunday’s race at World Wide Technology Raceway, but others packed up at Gateway and drove straight to Portland.

As we are just about a week and a half away from the dreaded IndyCar offseason, there is a lot of speculation swirling on just about every topic imaginable. Will Driver A sign with Team X? Will Driver B still have a seat at Team Y next season? Will Team M win their lawsuit against Driver P? Whether it is professional journalists like Marshall Pruett, Nathan Brown or Bruce Martin using their sourcing to make calculated predictions on what things will look like next season; or lowly bloggers like myself who go on mostly gut feelings – everyone seems to have an opinion on the makeup of the 2024 IndyCar grid. It’s fun to throw out speculation, and let people talk about it – then see what sticks.

They quickly assumed that since Dixon had been relatively unspectacular in the first half of the season, that Father Time had finally caught up with Dixon. The naysayers said that his skills had eroded and he might retire at the end of the season.
Scenes from Qualifying

McLaughlin Takes the Pole, But…

Scott McLaughlin ended up being the fastest qualifier for this afternoon’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500. He is technically the pole winner, and will take the point that comes with that. Unfortunately, McLaughlin is one of several drivers that will sustain a nine-position starting grid penalty, for an unapproved engine change.
