You may or may not be aware that Brad Pitt is set to star in an untitled movie project currently being filmed, where he is a Formula One driver. I’m not aware that there has ever been an F1 driver still racing in their 60s, but no one has ever accused Hollywood of paying attention to facts and logic. I don’t know much about the project, but if it is starring Pitt – I’m guessing it has a fairly large budget.

Don’t you hate it when the weather forecast is right? Most of the time in the winter, they will predict the snowpocalypse and assure certain death to all of us. Then when we see hardly a flake, they assume we are all happy and won’t hold them accountable. Since last Thursday, we heard warnings in Nashville that we would be buried under five inches of snow, with very cold temperatures. Hardly any of us paid any attention, because we’ve heard the cries of wolf before.
Cherish Them While We Can

The racing world was stunned on Friday December 29, when Gil de Ferran suddenly passed away. First and foremost, he was a devoted husband and father. He was also very well respected for his career after he climbed out of an IndyCar cockpit at the end of the 2003 season. IndyCar fans know him as a two-time CART champion, and for the purposes of this post – an Indianapolis 500 winner.
Getting Back in the Fold

On Tuesday, we finally got confirmation on a matter we had been waiting on, and one of the items that was in my wish list for 2024. Santino Ferrucci has been confirmed for the No. 14 he drove last season, for AJ Foyt Enterprises. This was a case of a driver wanting to return, and the team wanting him back. The only thing standing in the way seemed to be money – as is usually the case.
It Will Be Here Before You Know It

One of the biggest laments from fans of the NTT IndyCar Series is that the offseason is way too long. It’s a hard point to argue. The series schedule stretches from roughly mid-March to mid-September. That’s about six months, give or take a week. The season is just one week longer than the offseason.
What’s the Problem?

The NTT IndyCar Series had a rough time of it in the final couple of months of 2023. With a slew of bad news, with very little positive to counteract it – fan unrest was at a higher level than we’ve seen in a very long time. Here and everywhere else, fans were voicing their displeasure and concern about things that have happened, both in and out of the control of the series. Some of it was self-inflicted with curious decisions by upper management. There were also schedule concerns that were more about track management and the demands of other series. And some was just plain old bad luck that made all of IndyCar’s rough offseason to take center stage in late 2023. Fans were not at all quiet in voicing their concerns, either – and for good reason in a lot of the cases.
My Wish List for 2024

It has become a custom at this time of year for everyone to either make New Year’s resolutions, or to develop some type of wish list. I stopped making New Year’s resolutions in the 80s, because I quickly learned that I rarely kept any of them beyond January and I found it depressing every time I failed at them. It was just much more pleasant for me to not set any goals that I knew were unreachable. Besides…did I really need improving? For those that don’t understand sarcasm, that was a joke.
