Fans of the NTT IndyCar Series have been expressing their discontent with several things about the series for a while now. Things seemed to bubble over last fall, when there was nothing but one bad news story after another with nothing positive inserted for balance. There was yet another delay with the hybrid engines, the video game that had been on the drawing board for a couple of years was suddenly scratched. Texas Motor Speedway was off of the schedule for the first time since 1996 and so on. IndyCar fans love to complain, even when there is nothing to complain about. They had their pick when deciding what to complain about last fall.

Whether it’s subconscious or not, I’m always trying to talk up IndyCar at work to all of my co-workers. As most of you are reading this, I am boarding an airplane bound for Boise, Idaho to visit with my son and grandson. Actually the plane I am boarding in Nashville is bound for Seattle. After a five hour and fifteen minute flight, I’ll only have a forty-five minute layover in Seattle, before catching my flight to Boise.

Just a little over a month ago, I wrote a post on changes I was hoping would come before the IndyCar season got underway. Last Thursday the NTT IndyCar Series took a step in the right direction, by outlawing The Dragon – that infamous move inside the pit-commit line that Josef Newgarden used on the final lap to cross the Yard of Bricks ahead of Marcus Ericsson. My good friend, Mike Silver of The Pit Window, had a clever title for his post on this the other day: IndyCar Slays the Dragon
