Since it was raining yesterday and nothing was really happening, I decided to review my past posts about Road America. I realized I still love it here as much as ever—even with the rain. I’m not sure how many times it has rained in the nine years we have been coming here, but I’m sure it has. I still lose track of time here—I never know what day it is. I do manage to remember race day because of the buzzing undercurrent of competition.

It’s Race Day! Good morning from a sunny, and quite pleasant Road America. It was supposed to reach 70° today, but it was already there when we drove in this morning. It will get cloudy later in the day, but no rain is expected. The weather story today will be wind. There will be a stiff wind from the northwest, with gusts up to 25 knots, according to IndyCar Weatherman on Twitter. If you don’t follow him, you should (@IndyCar_Wxman).

What do I know? I predicted that a wet track had the potential to put a lot of fast cars in the back. The Fast Twelve consisted of all five Ganassi cars, all three Penske cars, two Arrow McLaren cars and two Andretti Global cars. Good morning from a wet Road America. It was dry at our hotel in Sheboygan just before we left for the track. But rain started hitting the windshield about halfway here. It was more of an annoying mist than anything, but just as we got to the gate, it started raining in earnest. Practice started just as we were getting set up in the media center. Given the weather conditions, we will spend this practice session in the dry confines of the media center.

Our “perfect” weekend has continued at Road America. Unfortunately, a revised forecast for Saturday has rain in the forecast, but Sunday is still looking good.

Welcome to Road America!

Welcome to a sunny, but cool and blustery Road America. It is currently 62°, but there is a very stiff wind out of the west, which makes it very chilly. Since the temperature at home is supposed to be in the 90s today – I’m not complaining. The weather is supposed to be perfect all weekend.

Road America Preview

This will come as surprise to some, and a sacrilege to many. Readers here know of my deep love, passion and respect for the Indianapolis 500. I cherish every visit to the hallowed ground at 16th and Georgetown (or the roundabout, or Polco…or whichever snarky nickname you have for that piece of land now that Georgetown Road no longer extends to 16th Street) that I have made since 1965.
