Much to Susan’s dismay, our vacation record is still intact. We have been married for almost six and a half years, and we have still not taken a trip that was more than one night that didn’t have some type of racing tie-in. You might say our honeymoon had no tie-in, but we were married at IMS on qualifying weekend and delayed our honeymoon for over a week so that we could attend the 2012 Indianapolis 500. For our honeymoon, we left the Tuesday after Memorial Day and went to Indian Rocks Beach for a week. But where did we go on the one rainy day? St. Petersburg and checked out the street course layout.

Welcome to another sun-drenched morning at Sonoma Raceway! Today’s weather is pretty much a carbon-copy of yesterday and Friday, which means…perfect. It was a brisk 45° when we woke up at our Petaluma hotel this morning. There is not a cloud in the sky and the gusty winds that were blowing yesterday seem to have subsided.

Posted in IndyCar on September 15, 2018 by OilpressureMy expectations for Sonoma Raceway were not great. George has harped so much at what a boring race this is and how he can’t stand watching races from here that I really was expecting to not like it here. Maybe it’s because my expectations were so low, but this track has been a real pleasant surprise.
Day Two At Sonoma

Good morning (or afternoon, depending on where you are) from Sonoma Raceway. It’s cool, which I understand is typical for the mornings here. When we woke up, it was a brisk 48°. The projected high for today is 76°, but it is supposed to be breezy. As we entered the track at around 10:15, our car said it was 61°. Our parking spot is on a hill near Turn Two. I was very glad we had our jackets with us, because we were catching quite a bit of wind up there. The main stands and the Media Center sit down in sort of a valley here. Once we went down the hill, the wind was blocked and it was suddenly much warmer. In short, it’s a perfect day weather-wise at the track.
