The Evolution of the Snake Pit

Last week, I was very excited to see that the fine folks at IMS have released the names of the entertainment for this year’s Indy 500 Snake Pit presented by Coors Light. Please understand that I say that in my most sarcastic tone possible. The lineup includes Skrillex, Alesso and Illenium. The only one of those three that I have heard of is Skrillex, because I remember him playing at IMS before and I also remember my son being very impressed that he was there, since he is an aspiring electronic music artist himself.

The Chance of a Lifetime

This past Wednesday, we got confirmation of what some of us had been suspecting – that Conor Daly will be driving for Andretti Autosport in this year’s Indianapolis 500. Last year, Daly drove in the “500” for Dale Coyne Racing with sponsorship from the US Air Force. He barely made the field as the slowest qualifier and bumped his way back in late on Saturday. He finished twenty-first and in front of three other cars that were still running at the end. It was not a great result, but still better than twelve other cars in the field and far better than the two drivers that did not qualify and were on the sidelines at the start.

There are some of my loyal readers who will stop reading this when they learn what it’s about. I will apologize in advance for this and any post I write on this topic for the next four months, but like it or not – it is going to be an ongoing storyline leading up to the 103rd Running of the Indianapolis 500.

Random Thoughts On The Rolex 24

While it isn’t an IndyCar race, it’s always fun to watch the Rolex 24 and lately – I’ve been posting random comments about it. It may not be to the extent that I do an IndyCar race, but I’m not near as well-versed on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as I am the NTT IndyCar Series. But with so many current and former IndyCar drivers in the event, I enjoy commenting on it.

Settle Sports Where They Belong

The Rolex 24 is this weekend. Many drivers from the NTT IndyCar Series will be competing in what I always considered to be an enjoyable event. We are all starved for racing and it’s good to get a good twenty-four hour dose of it. Recent history has shown that if the Rolex 24 is this weekend, then the Super Bowl must be next weekend.

It’s always amazing how quickly things start happening once the calendar flips to the new year. We are barely more than three weeks into 2019 and we’ve already seen announcements pertaining to NBC IndyCar schedule, NTT coming on board as the new title sponsor and most recently – announcements from individual IndyCar teams confirming their plans for the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series season.

Where Does The DXC Technology 600 Rank?

When I was writing about NTT coming on board as the new title sponsor for the newly-branded NTT IndyCar Series last week, I mentioned that some consider the IndyCar race at Texas Motor Speedway to be the second-most important race on the IndyCar schedule. A longtime reader and commenter challenged that statement and others questioned it as well. He asked me if I was one who thought it was, and I had to pause and ask myself the same question.
