If you want to stir a debate among fans of the NTT IndyCar Series, bring up the topic of cockpit protection. You will instantly get a range of opinions; from do nothing because it will change the look of a car, to put a bubble-canopy on the cars and create a survival cell for the driver that would be the envy of NASA.

With a full day of Spring Training yesterday at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas for the NTT IndyCar Series, is it too much of a stretch to say that the offseason is officially over? A quick glance at Tuesday’s weather map shows that a giant swath of heavy downpour and/or snow encompassed a great deal of the Eastern US. That was not the case in Austin.

As my wife so eloquently revealed last week, I sometimes overdo it watching sports. This past weekend was very cold on Saturday and very rainy on Sunday. Susan was involved in a lot of her cake decorating that she does on the side, so that pretty well gave me carte blanche to watch whatever I wanted.

It’s hard to believe that it has been almost a year since we learned that NBC would be the exclusive home of the NTT IndyCar Series. Had you asked me before I looked it up, I would have said that we learned about it sometime last summer. I would have been wrong, as it was March 21 of last year when the announcement was made.
