Every now and then, I will allow myself to wander away from discussing IndyCar on this site. Some might ask how I can do that, if I describe this site as devoted exclusively to IndyCar and the Indianapolis 500. Well, first of all it’s my site and I can do what I want to. Second, at least today’s topic deals with motor racing. I occasionally wander off to discuss dreaded trendy sayings and buzzword every couple of years. I’ve not done one of those in a couple of years, so expect one of those later in the offseason. I’ve even devoted an entire post to the 1969 moon landing, so it’s not much of a stretch that I won’t be discussing IndyCar in this post.

I have been away from this site for two weeks now. If you read my last post, you know that I took off to have a procedure done on my eyes, correcting a droopy eyelid on my right eye. One of the (many) problems with old age is that things that were once considered an annoyance, eventually become big enough problems that they need to be fixed. Such a malady has finally caught up with me. For years I boasted that I have never had surgery. I reached the age of 66 back in October and was still able to make that claim. After today, it’s debatable if I still can – but I think I’ll just call this a procedure. Yeah, let’s call it that – a procedure.

This eventually does get around to IndyCar, so please bear with me. Most regular readers here know that I am a die-hard Tennessee Volunteer fan. I grew up a Vols fan all my life, and spent my college career at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. I call it a career because I stayed longer than most. I was having such a good time, that my father finally had to cut me off before I got serious and graduated.
Something We Can All Celebrate

Thursday morning, we learned that the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach, which operates the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, has been acquired by Penske Entertainment. As usual, there have been a few negative comments on social media – but I see this as a good thing. In fact, I’m curious why anyone would think this is a bad thing – unless you just like to publicly complain about anything.
