Michael Andretti has his fingers in a lot of different pies. Not only does he own and operate a successful five-car team in the NTT IndyCar Series, he owns a successful team in Indy Lights – even though that series is on hiatus for this season. He also owns a team in Formula E as well as a Global RallyCross team. In the past, he has owned teams in ALMS, A1GP, US F2000 and Star Mazda. He is used to evaluating talent and making some tough business decisions.

Every week, I enjoy reading Robin Miller’s Mailbag that he posts every Wednesday morning on Racer.com. I like to see what other IndyCar fans are thinking, but I also like to read his responses. Not only are they humorous, but more times than not – I learn something new. Some say they are bothered by the negativity on there, but I find it entertaining. It’s sort of like listening to Donald Davidson on The Talk of Gasoline Alley, and hearing someone ask if it’s true that Jim Hurtubise put his Mallard through the qualifying line, only to find out he had cold beer under the hood. You know what the response is going to be, but it’s still funny when it happens as you thought.

As we were all looking forward to our first race in nine months last week, this little nugget came out of nowhere – that the NASCAR Cup Series would be staging a race at Nashville Superspeedway in 2021. I had not heard a thing about it until a racing friend of mine in Florida sent me an e-mail with a link. His e-mail was short and to the point – “Have you seen this?”
Random Thoughts on Texas

Perhaps in my old age, I’m starting to subconsciously lower my expectations. It’s either that or most fans of the NTT IndyCar Series had unrealistic expectations going into Saturday night’s Genesys 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. As you know, I always go and check social media to see what fans are saying after a race. Some of you have told me to never do that, but I don’t feel like I’m able to properly comment on IndyCar if I don’t see the various opinions out there. Sometimes, the vast majority of opinions coincide with my own. Other times, my opinion is diametrically opposed to what I’m seeing out there. Such was the case after Saturday night’s race.

Just a little less than three months ago, we were staring down the barrel of the season-opening race of the NTT IndyCar Series. A lot has happened since then, including the loss or postponement of the first half of the season. One thing that hasn’t changed too much is the driver lineup for the teams.
Waiting Things Out Across the Pond
Posted in IndyCar on June 1, 2020 by OilpressureNote from George: For the first time in over a year, this site gets a visit from Matthew Lawrenson – a devoted IndyCar fan and now a Tennessee Titans fan – from across the pond. Matthew has followed this site for years from the UK, and he and I struck a friendship through Twitter. We’ve never met, but he convinced me to let him do a guest-post in August of 2018 – which was very well received by readers of this site. It’s always interesting to get the perspective of an IndyCar fan from so far away. If you read my post on Friday, you know that Matthew and I differ slightly on what the Indianapolis 500 may look like in August. But unlike some, I can still be friends with people who disagree with me. This is Matthew’s fourth post here, and it may be his best effort yet. – GP
