When you hear someone mention the law of unintended consequences, it usually has a negative connotation. It’s normally when someone has a seemingly bright idea, but there are a lot of bad things that go along with it that no one really thought of. The Iowa IndyCar 250s of this past weekend was the exact opposite. This event provided a very positive outcome from something that came about as a necessity of something bad happening – cancelled races due to a pandemic.

Strange times bring about strange starting times. I have followed this sport for decades, and I’m not sure I ever remember a Friday night race – but that is exactly what we have tonight.

One of the main themes coming out of the double-header weekend at Road America was how well the young guns performed, especially during Race two on Sunday. Six out of the Top-Seven at the end of Sunday’s race had less than a season and a half of IndyCar experience, while some were only in their fourth race ever.

Greetings from beautiful Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin! This will have some racing coverage to it, but as you know – it’s hard to know what went on during a race if you attended it. It’s best to see a replay when you get home. Instead, this will intermingle our weekend along with thoughts on the excellent races we saw. I first want to thank everyone for all of the messages of concern regarding Susan’s diagnosis. She and I were absolutely overwhelmed with the outpouring of love by the comments here, as well as on Twitter and Facebook. We also greatly appreciate all of the texts, phone calls and e-mails that everyone has sent. Her spirits are good and we are very happy to be at Road America this weekend, before she starts treatment next week. In the interest of full disclosure…In case you are concerned that I wrote a lot so soon after her diagnosis, most of this was written Monday night. I just added the first paragraph once we arrived, along with a couple of other edits. Thanks again for all of your support – GP

As planned, we flew to Milwaukee last night after a full day at work for both of us. We had an eventful flight, which was supposed to land around 8:30 pm. However, storms in Milwaukee forced us to land in Chicago. We sat forever and finally landed in Milwaukee around 11:30, barely making our rental car deadline of midnight. By the time we picked up our rental car and made the trek up to Road America, we got to our hotel sometime after 1:00 am. It wasn’t fun, to say the least.

I wish that the title of this post was meant to lure you in, only to find me being snarky and sarcastic about something. Unfortunately, that is not the case today.

Random Thoughts on the GMR Grand Prix

If you didn’t like the season-opening race at Texas, you probably weren’t a fan of Saturday’s GMR Grand Prix at Indianapolis. While there were some interesting battles and strategies on display, the storyline at both races was pretty much the same – Scott Dixon drives away from the field, leaving everyone else to battle for second.
