They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It seems that some saw two classic races from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend, while others came away from their televisions thinking how much of their weekend they gave up to watch the NTT IndyCar Series put on a pair of snoozers. Like most of these things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

The Bommarito Auto Group 500 from World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway was something of a mixed bag, if you were looking for great racing. And just like that, the Indianapolis 500 is over and the NTT IndyCar Series is headed to a double-header event. In this crazy year when nothing seems normal; that’s a situation that actually is normal. Since 2012, the Indianapolis 500 has been immediately followed by a double-header the very next weekend at Belle Isle in Detroit. The only difference this time is we are in August and the double-header they are headed for is an oval.
