They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It seems that some saw two classic races from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend, while others came away from their televisions thinking how much of their weekend they gave up to watch the NTT IndyCar Series put on a pair of snoozers. Like most of these things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Although we didn’t get full confirmation that this event would even be held until last Saturday afternoon – the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio will take place this weekend. This event was originally scheduled for the weekend of August 8-9, it had been postponed due to increasing restrictions in the state of Ohio.
California May Not Be Golden, After All

File this under one of the strangest ideas I’ve heard in the last few years. A super-speedway racing venue that has produced some outstanding IndyCar racing, is about to become a half-mile track, along the lines of Bristol Motor Speedway. The Athletic announced yesterday that they have learned of NASCAR’s intentions to convert the two-mile Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California to a half-mile oval.

The Bommarito Auto Group 500 from World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway was something of a mixed bag, if you were looking for great racing. Both races were essentially won (or lost) in the pits on the last series of stops. In Race One on Saturday, the Chip Ganassi Racing crew of Scott Dixon outperformed Pato O’Ward’s crew by the narrowest of margins.

And just like that, the Indianapolis 500 is over and the NTT IndyCar Series is headed to a double-header event. In this crazy year when nothing seems normal; that’s a situation that actually is normal. Since 2012, the Indianapolis 500 has been immediately followed by a double-header the very next weekend at Belle Isle in Detroit. The only difference this time is we are in August and the double-header they are headed for is an oval.
