Isolated Incident or Team Drama?

Posted in IndyCar on July 6, 2022 by Oilpressure

The fallout continues from the implosion at Andretti Autosport this past Sunday. There is plenty of finger-pointing and accusations as to who was at fault – especially regarding the tussle over two laps between Alexander Rossi and Romain Grosjean. Then there was the gaffe of leaving Colton Herta on track, when he should have pitted – knowing a caution was about to come out.

Random Thoughts on Mid-Ohio

First of all, I hope everyone will, is or did enjoy your Independence Day celebration – depending on what time you are reading this. Given that today is a holiday, it may be Tuesday before you are reading this. The weather worked out nicely for us. It was not great on Sunday, making it easier to sit inside and watch the IndyCar race; but Monday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and hot temps. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July!

Mid-Ohio Preview

After two weekends off for sort of a mid-season break, the NTT IndyCar Series kicks off the second half of the season at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio. When the series left Road America almost three weeks ago, they had just completed their fifth consecutive on-track weekend with only two off weekends since mid-April. I think teams, drivers and even fans were ready for a break.

Will Their Future Match Their Past?

If you know anything about me, you know that I love any reminder of the past in racing. When Chevy announced they would return to the NTT IndyCar Series in 2012, I was happy because it recreated the 80s and 90s in my mind. When Firestone announced it was planning to return to IndyCar in 1995, visions of my childhood in the 60s danced in my head.

A Mostly Optimistic Update

Many people have sent e-mails inquiring about my wife Susan’s health. A lot has happened since I last posted here about ten days ago. Because of that I will devote this entire post to updating what is going on with her. After today, I don’t anticipate much changing with her – so I’ll be able to discuss IndyCar racing and more frivolous subjects like the evil of dri-fit polos and the goodness of a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. But today, I want to bring everyone up to speed with Susan, since so many people are concerned about her.

To Suspend or Not?

Update: Before I get into today’s topic, I promised on Wednesday that I would give an update on my wife Susan. She is still hospitalized. Her fever has gone down, but has not subsided. Scans showed that the abscessed liver is looking fine, but the scans also showed traces of pneumonia in her lungs. They did an entire respiratory panel for everything under the sun, including COVID, and everything was negative – so the doctors are sort of scratching their collective heads. As of Thursday night, it does not appear that she will be coming home for the weekend (update: she did). – GP

You have heard my discontent with some of the posts in the various IndyCar-related Facebook groups. There seems to be a lot of whining combined with some rather outlandish ideas. Sunday night, while we were still in Wisconsin – I saw a post on one of them (and I cannot remember which one it was) that I thought was ridiculous. It concerned an incident after Sunday’s race. Oddly enough, I found myself in the minority – so I wanted to pose the issue here to see what you thought.

Another Bump in the Road

The plan was for me to write a post for today on Tuesday night. We had an uneventful drive back from Road America and got back home around 9:00 Monday night. Tuesday morning, I had a meeting for work, about an hour away in Clarksville, TN. I felt somewhat comatose from driving the day before, but that’s normal. Susan was expectedly tired as well.
