Many times, pre-event hype far exceeds the actual event itself. Many heavyweight boxing events have been billed as The Fight of the Century, only to last for about a minute and a half before one of the combatants is flattened with a TKO before some spectators have found their seats. Those that remember the Y2K glitch, were assured of impending doom on New Year’s Eve of 1999.

There was an announcement on Tuesday that may have been a small victory for fans (mainly, me) of the NTT IndyCar Series, yet no one is really talking about it publicly. NASCAR confirmed rumors yesterday that we had been hearing for some time; that the city of Chicago will be hosting a race on the streets of their downtown, along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Many have said that Chicago and NASCAR have both taken note of the success of the inaugural Music City Grand Prix last year, and both parties want to try and replicate the success that Nashville experienced last year, in downtown Chicago.
Random Thoughts on Toronto

For the first time since 2019, there is another Honda Indy Toronto in the books. I know this race has a reputation for being fast and chaotic, but I had forgotten how bumpy and narrow the streets of Toronto are. The other day, I said experience would win out over youthful eagerness. That turned out to be the case, but not as I predicted (as usual). I predicted two-time winner Josef Newgarden would be victorious. As usual, my predicting a driver to win ended up being a curse. Newgarden was having a decent day until a very un-Penske-like pit stop relegated him to mid-pack. He did well to finish tenth.

For the first time in three years, the streets of Toronto will come alive this weekend with the sounds of the NTT IndyCar Series. On Monday that looked to be the main storyline heading into this weekend’s Honda Indy Toronto. By Tuesday night, that and anything else IndyCar related took a back seat to the drama going on at Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR).
The Importance of Having Goals

If you haven’t heard, Alex Palou has announced he is bolting to McLaren for 2023, even though Ganassi exercised their option on Palou for next season. This all dropped Tuesday night after today’s post was already written and loaded up. This saga is still developing and getting ugly. I will discuss it on Friday in the Toronto Preview. In the meantime, enjoy a post about what has suddenly become old news. – GP
Just a Blip, or Cause for Concern?

Much has been made about the TV ratings this year for the NTT IndyCar Series and the Indianapolis 500. No matter how you spin it, the TV numbers for this year’s Indianapolis 500 were a disappointment. Coming off of a year when Helio Castroneves won his record-tying fourth 500; NBC and series officials were hoping for the highest records in close to a decade. Instead, they were some of the worst. A lot of reasons and excuses were given, by the same people that said they were expecting great ratings.
