It Was as Simple as That

I have been writing posts for this site for well over fifteen years. In that time, I’ve written a handful of articles, where the point I was trying to make was completely missed by many of the loyal readers of this site. This past Friday was one of those times.

How to Prove Oval Fan Wrong

I suppose a more appropriate title would be "How to End the Stereotype of Oval Fan". Every now and then, I will focus on some ridiculous comment that someone made in one of the many IndyCar-related Facebook groups. Those are easy targets and fun to laugh at. There are also some very good comments that ring true, but they don’t provide much humor because you can’t poke fun at them. Consequently, they don’t get talked abut as much.

IndyCar’s Olympic Break–Good or Bad?

Posted in IndyCar on July 31, 2024 by Oilpressure

We are approaching our second of three consecutive weekend of no IndyCar racing after a busy stretch from early May to mid July with track activity practically every weekend, with the exception of one or two off weekends thrown in. The main reason for this break is the Olympics that started last week and will continue straight for sixteen days. NBC covers both the Olympics and IndyCar (for now). Not only is every available minute of airtime devoted to the Olympic coverage, but NBC needs all hands on-deck.

Why Will Things Be Different This Time?

Sometimes I will throw out a rhetorical question on here, then end up giving what I consider to be the correct answer. In short, I give my opinion. Here, I am asking a real question that I have no idea what the answer is. I am asking a direct question and seeking an answer from readers. It might help if some of our friends from across the pond were to chime in on this. I am hoping to hear from Oliver, Trevor and Matthew, who all live in the UK; as well as Yannick, who I believe lives in Germany. But I also expect that many that are stateside will chime in also – at least I hope so.

The Grass is Not Always Greener

Loyalty is not prevalent in motorsports. I don’t care if you’re talking about IndyCar, Formula One, NASCAR, NHRA, IMSA or USAC. That goes for drivers, crew and team owners. It is rare to see anyone spend a lengthy career with the same team in racing, so we will get that out of the way in this discussion.

A Bright Spot in a Strange Season

Posted in IndyCar on July 24, 2024 by Oilpressure

I don’t think I will get much argument that this has been a strange IndyCar season, so far. It all started with David Malukas breaking his wrist before the season. Then Team Penske had two drivers disqualified from the season-opener that also vacated the win by Josef Newgarden. It wasn’t strange, but we had a back-to-back winner at the Indianapolis 500, when Josef Newgarden accomplished the feat for the first time since Helio Castroneves repeated in 2002.

Random Thoughts on Toronto

Posted in IndyCar on July 22, 2024 by Oilpressure

The Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto has been known in the past to give some surprise results. Colton Herta winning on Sunday was certainly not a surprise. He won the pole and led every practice session. But based on where some drivers started yesterday, I was surprised to see some of them end up where they did.
