Once again we have reached that point in the year, where practically all activity stops for a couple of weeks or so – that is, unless you are in retail sales. That inactivity especially applies to the racing world. This is the one time of year that most teams and drivers go into hibernation. They know that shortly after the calendar flips to the new year, things get real again. The off-season becomes the pre-season, and this past season becomes last season.

The Lack of Willpower (Not the Driver)

It’s probably a good thing I don’t live in the Indianapolis area, and this past Saturday is a good example of why. Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) held a garage sale of sorts. They have downsized from five cars this past season to three for 2025. Like most people when we downsize, we look to discard things we no longer plan to use that are taking up space. It’s better to make a little money from it than throw it into a dumpster, so they held a garage sale.

Three Seats Remain–Who Gets Them?

This past Monday, we got confirmation that another seat on the fulltime IndyCar grid has been filled. Devlin DeFrancesco will pilot the No. 30 entry for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLLR) for the entire 2025 season. This is the car that Pietro Fittipaldi drove this past season in a mostly anonymous and forgettable campaign. It is also the car that Jack Harvey left Meyer Shank Racing for at the end of the 2021 season. If you want to go even further back – it is the same car number or team that won the 2020 Indianapolis 500 with Takuma Sato behind the wheel. That seems like a lifetime ago.

According to an article posted last week on Racer.com, Marshall Pruett is reporting the Dreyer & Reinbold Racing (DRR) is strongly considering a return to being a full-time participant in the NTT IndyCar Series. With a new chassis and engine formula promised for the 2027 season, they figure that will be a good time frame to shoot for, when teams are on more even ground with little to no data to go on.

“Senna”–The Series

Every now and then, I will allow myself to wander away from discussing IndyCar on this site. Some might ask how I can do that, if I describe this site as devoted exclusively to IndyCar and the Indianapolis 500. Well, first of all it’s my site and I can do what I want to. Second, at least today’s topic deals with motor racing. I occasionally wander off to discuss dreaded trendy sayings and buzzword every couple of years. I’ve not done one of those in a couple of years, so expect one of those later in the offseason. I’ve even devoted an entire post to the 1969 moon landing, so it’s not much of a stretch that I won’t be discussing IndyCar in this post.

This is old news now by now, and the furor has already died down. But I was out of commission when this occurred and the reaction it brought is still fresh on my mind.

So, What Did I Miss?

I have been away from this site for two weeks now. If you read my last post, you know that I took off to have a procedure done on my eyes, correcting a droopy eyelid on my right eye. They did both eyes to keep me symmetrical, since the left eye had begun to droop too, Such are the maladies of old age.
