Last week, we lost another popular Indianapolis 500 driver from my childhood. Wally Dallenbach was a rookie in the 1967 Indianapolis 500 and his last appearance on the track was in 1981, after he had already retired and was in his tenure as Chief Steward for CART. Dallenbach passed away last Monday April 29 at the age of 87.

You were warned on Wednesday that this was coming. You just didn’t know when it would be. After almost a year away, One Take Only is back! For those that are new, back in 2011 – my good friend and now former co-worker, John McLallen and I started doing a video blog called One Take Only. We got the name because we weren’t going to try and be professional about this. We would go into each one totally unscripted, unrehearsed and unedited. If we made a mistake or a flub, we would just leave it in. We tried to make it like two guys talking in a bar. Some have hated these from day one (including family members of mine), while others love them. Those who know us both say they are no different than going to lunch with the two of us.

I don’t read as many books as I used to. It seems there are fewer and fewer hours in each day. It used to be that my best book-reading time was bedtime. But I now find my iPad has become my bedtime source for reading, and hardback books have gone by the wayside. I have two IndyCar-related books on my bedside table that were new releases when I bought them; Indy Split and Al Unser, Jr: A Checkered Past. They are now over two years old. It’s probably been that long since I’ve read any book. That all changed last month, and it was very refreshing.
