The dust has yet to settle from the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500, and The NTT IndyCar Series is on to another race. This time the site is downtown Detroit for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix. Last year was the first year for the new circuit after the race left Belle Isle and moved back to downtown for the first time since 1991.

The 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500 is now in the books. Some said the race would be pushed to Monday and possibly finished on Tuesday. Others (including myself) said the race would start on Sunday and run the required 101 laps to make it an official race, but would eventually be shortened by rain. Few said it would start on Sunday and run the full 500 miles, but that’s exactly what happened.

When you’ve been here since the Open Test in mid-April, then for every day of track activity in May, at a mostly empty Speedway – you get a little used to it. It’s great for the bottom line if IMS and crowds breed bigger crowds, but when you’ve had free run of the place for the last couple of weeks, it’s hard to fall in love with the massive crowds, like the one that showed up early today for Carb Day. You can’t help but wonder…where were you all month?
