Many states, including mine, have now legalized gambling. I’m not much of a gambler these days. If I ever happen to wander into a casino, it’s because I’m with someone else that wants to go. I’ll usually spend about $5 in the slot machines, and that’s about it. Once that $5 is gone, I’m ready to be gone too.

File this under: Things that have always annoyed me.
Some of the “winning” cars in the IMS Museum have a somewhat sketchy past. Just how much of the car was actually driven to victory remains a mystery when it comes to some of the cars – AJ Foyt’s 1977 winner comes to mind. There are some rumors that the actual winning tub belongs to someone else and that perhaps not a single part on the display car was on the track that day in 1977.
The Curious Talent Choices for NBC This May

Earlier this week, NBC revealed their broadcast team for the 105th Running of the Indianapolis 500. As expected; Leigh Diffey, Townsend Bell and Paul Tracy will be in the booth covering the race. Pit reporters will be Marty Snider, Kelli Stavast and Kevin Lee. None of those presented any huge shock, although I am glad to see Kevin Lee will be back on a true race broadcast for the first time this season.

Like many of you, I was saddened when I learned that Donald Davidson was retiring from his position as IMS Historian. I held out a small sliver of hope that he would still do his nightly radio program in May, The Talk of Gasoline Alley (TOGA). As it turns out, that was one of the main things he wanted to get away from. He explained earlier this week that he did not enjoy the way he had to do the show last year and he did not like a lot of the changes that would likely stay in place for this year. Therefore, he decided that he would step back and do the things he wanted to do in May, but not all of the things that he had to do. I have to say, I’m jealous.
Personal Reflections on Bobby Unser

I am guilty of using words like “icon” and “legend” way too often. It could be because there are so many living legends in this sport, that those are the words that I use to describe them. I am guessing that there are more true legends of our sport in their eighties than there has ever been. We lost one of the true legends Sunday night, when Bobby Unser passed away at the age of eighty-seven.
A Belated Welcome to the Month of May

If I was a casual fan and tuned into the Genesys 300 at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday night, I’m not sure I would’ve bothered tuning into the EXPEL 375 on Sunday afternoon. I might have been tempted to rearrange my sock drawer instead. That option held the possibility to be more entertaining than a repeat of what I watched Saturday night.
