Sometimes the things you plan in your head, just never quite work out. I had planned on (and promised) to post here between Practice Three and Qualifying. Well, one thing led to another…yada, yada, yada…and we never came back in where I could write anything out. When we go to a race track, we actually like to go all over the race track.

Day Two At Barber Motorsports Park

Greetings from a sundrenched Barber Motorsports Park. The ambient temperature at 10:00 is already 63°, but it feels but warmer than that. The weatherman could not have produced a better day to be at a race track. Unfortunately, tomorrow promises to be completely different. It is going to be much cooler and rain – lots of rain and potentially dangerous thunderstorms.

Practice Two Was Lively

If Practice One was uneventful, Practice Two made up for it. At least three cars found the gravel traps, one with slight damage. Simon Pagenaud and Zach Veach both brought out the red flags for venturing off course. Then late in the practice, Juncos driver Rene Bender went off track and made contact with the tire barrier. Was it the hotter temperatures this afternoon? I’m not sure.

Good morning from Barber Motorsports Park! It was a cold and brisk 52°when I got out of the car here. But you could not ask for a more spectacular day. As I type, the temperature has already risen to 56°. The forecast promises that it will reach a high of 70°today.  Let’s hope so. Tomorrow is supposed to be the same, but things may get ugly on Sunday. They are calling for cooler temperatures with potentially severe thunderstorms later in the afternoon. After two days of running on normal tires, they may be breaking out the rain tires on Sunday. It could get interesting.

As you read this, I will be on my way to Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama – just east of Birmingham – for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. Susan and I will have two cars in Alabama this weekend. She has been in Arkansas all week for work. Her flight gets into Nashville at 12:40 this afternoon. Rather than miss a day of track activity, I am headed there this morning and she will get to the track very late this afternoon.

Greetings from my hotel room in beautiful Bentonville, Arkansas! I am here for work all week. I fly home Friday afternoon just in time to drive down to Barber Motorsports Park and meet up with George, who will already be at the track, late Friday afternoon. I’m excited! Our racing season is about to start.
