Welcome to beautiful Road America, near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Overnight thunderstorms have made for wet grounds and a green race track. But the good thing about a summer storm going through overnight is that the next day usually produces crisp blue skies. That’s the case here today.

A few years ago, I tackled this subject using the exact same comparison I’m going to use here. If this seems like a re-run, it’s not. It’s just that recent events have reignited this rant within. I promise I haven’t even gone back to see what I wrote. This is all coming from the heart now – not a few years ago. So if you remember the last one and see similarities, forgive me. Some Food For Thought On Pack Racing

The biggest question coming out of the Verizon IndyCar Series race at Texas Motor Speedway this past Saturday night is what can be done to eliminate pack racing? If that was the biggest question, the second biggest question was should it be eliminated? I am not an engineer, so I have no idea how to answer the first question. To be truthful, I have mixed emotions on the second one.

Some of the words coming from the drivers immediately after the Rainguard Water Sealers 600 at Texas Motor Speedway were “Crazy”, “Wild”, “Fun”, “Close” and “Fast”. There were other words coming from the driver’s mouths that I’ve chosen not to print. After all, this is a family site. But the most dreaded term in the minds of many fans of the Verizon IndyCar Series that came from Saturday night’s race was “pack-racing”.
