Good morning from a sunny and not-too-crowded Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It’s Legend’s day. This year’s Legend to be honored is Mario Andretti.

First of all…contrary to popular belief, I was not abducted in the Carb Day crowd. But my afternoon filled up with an unexpected surprise. Through happenstance and good fortune, I somehow lucked into a ride in the two-seater at IMS. I’m close friends with a sponsor here that had one opening in the two-seater rides they were giving for their guests. As an act of kindness, they asked me if I wanted to do it. Needless to say, they did not have to twist my arm. Susan is going to put up a post about the whole thing a little later, but suffice it to say, it was unbelievable!

As we were driving through the mob in the infield of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, I had to ask myself why I was here. Yes, I’m old – but this wasn’t my bag thirty years ago. I was never of the shirtless, throw a Frisbee walk barefoot crowd. Most will not be surprised that I worse shorts, tennis shoes and polos to any large gathering like this. Now, it’s just expected of my age group.

Three-hundred and sixty-two days ago, we all watched Tony Kanaan win a very popular 97th Running of the Indianapolis 500. Now that we’re almost a year removed from it – I’d have to say it ranks up there with some of the most popular in recent years. Certainly, Dan Wheldon’s second victory in 2011 was near the top. Watching Helio Castroneves celebrate winning his third win in 2009 – just a month after being acquitted for tax evasion, was popular with many fans. Although he was never one of my personal favorites, Sam Hornish passing Marco Andretti just before the yard of bricks ranks near the top for many fans. So who will be drinking the milk in a couple of days? That remains to be seen.

You probably thought we had put One Take Only away until later during the summer. After all, it’s barely been two weeks since the last appearance. No such luck. For those that don’t know or are trying to forget; One Take Only is the video-blog of Oilpressure.com. It is essentially two old cronies sitting in my backyard talking racing. It is unscripted, unrehearsed, unedited and we only do it once. If we screw it up, we screw it up – hence the name.

First of all, I want to thank everyone who participated. There were a record number of entries, this year. You guys are good. Surprisingly, several got everyone of them – including the tie-breaker. So I had to go by who got theirs in first. The commenter known as “Billy The Skink” was actually the first to get his in that had everyone correct. In fact, he got his in in within a matter of hours. He was a previous winner and said he was only playing for fun and already had a set of prints from the last time.

The disclaimer I’ll throw out here is that I have still not watched the television broadcast of qualifying on the DVR. We got back late Sunday night and last night, we were both playing catch-up with “life” at work and around the house. After two weekend in the fantasy world of racing, it’s tough to go back to the hum-drum of everyday living. At least we know we’ll be going back in just three days. It’s a week from now that reality will come crashing down on us.

I have heard many comments about the lack of Verizon IndyCar Series logo merchandise to purchase for IndyCar events. I took to my favorite hobby this qualifying weekend to check out what was available to purchase this year. Unfortunately, I only found 2 items that had the Verizon IndyCar Series logo on them. Maybe that will change by race weekend–if not, Verizon or someone is missing a great chance to publicize their sponsorship of IndyCar. I saw some merchandise with the generic IndyCar Series logos. The fans want to embrace the new sponsorship with Verizon. My husband has several IZOD IndyCar polos that will never see the light of day again, lest he give free publicity to a sponsor who bailed on us.
