Rain Delay On Bump Day

Qualifying for the 102nd Running of the Indianapolis 500 is currently on hold. The rains came around noon after eleven cars made an attempt and ten cars qualified. The one attempt that was waved off was by Oriol Servia. With laps speeds in the 201 and 197 range, Servia’s crew waved off his run.

As things stand, Helio Castroneves is on the provisional pole with a four-lap average speed of 228.919 mph. The remaining nine qualified cars (in order) are Simon Pagenaud, Spencer Pigot making up the provisional front row. They are followed by Scott Dixon, Ed Jones, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Jay Howard, Zachary Claman De Melo, Graham Rahal and Jack Harvey. Apparently, Rahal’s team did not find any additional speed overnight as he is still struggling. He could find himself on the bubble before the day is out, and that would be unfortunate.

Track drying efforts are now underway and if it does not rain anymore, the track should reopen for qualifying at 2:30 EDT. In the meantime, I think I’m going t go check out the “Amazing Unsers” exibit at the IMS Museum.

Susan is working on her post as I type, so check back later for her post or any other qualifying updates.
