Another Rain Delay For Bump Day

geothumbnail10
After another hour of track time, another small shower showed up. It rained just enough to make qualifying stop. The estimate is that qualifying will resume at 4:10 EDT. We currently have twenty-three cars in the field. Conor Daly is the slowest at 222.684 mph. The drivers that still have a guaranteed shot to qualify are Robert Wickens, Gabby Chaves, Sage Karam, Carlos Muñoz, Josef Newgarden, Will Power, Tony Kanaan, Pippa Mann, Takuma Sato, Charlie Kimball and Ed Carpenter.

The sun is shining and I am about to head back out. Please check back later.

I imagine that the anti-bumping folks will use Hinch’s situation as an example of why bumping is bad. But–and Hinch is one of my favorite drivers–I would argue that the inherent drama and excitement of the situation is exactly why bumping and keeping the field of 33 is so vital to Indy. Very nervous and riveting programming–and ultimately heart-breaking. I’m very impressed with how HInch handled the disappointment also. Lastly, I can’t decide how I feel about putting Hinch in another car, I know it’s happened, but jeez.

Yes, Hinch handled his situation with class, but for the life of me I don’t understand how he and his team allowed themselves to get in that situation.
