What a Way to Spend the Day!

There is something about the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that stirs my soul. I was talking to a friend of mine here today and he asked me how the appeal stays alive with me all this time. He is here covering the race as a way to make a living. I am here because this place has always been such a part of my life, I just can’t get enough of it.
I’ll be honest, for the last couple of years I had felt my enthusiasm dwindling just a little bit. Now that I’m retired, I have focused a lot of my attention on getting ready for May. I have succeeded. I am more excited heading into this May than I have been in a while.
For a test, it was a good crowd today. I wandered over to Turn Two, where they had opened up the viewing mounds as well as a section in the SE Vista.

The crew here seems more ready than in year’s past. I’m sure some final touches need to be made, but the place seems ready to open for business. That’s good because the Grand Prix is less than two weeks away.

For what it’s worth, the fastest time of the day belonged to Conor Daly, who posted a lap of 225.394 mph. Helio Castroneves was second quick, with a speed of 225.200 mph. Takuma Sato was next with a speed of 224.800. Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi rounded out the Top-Five.
I find it interesting that the Top-Three times were by drivers who have not turned a lap of competition in an Indy car this year.
Cars will hit the track at 10:00 am tomorrow, and will run until 5:00 pm with a break for lunch from Noon to 1:00 pm. I am headed to Dawson’s for dinner with a friend to eat my first tenderloin, and we will do this again tomorrow. I will close with a few of the photos I took today. They are not as good as Susan’s, but they are better than nothing. Please check back tomorrow morning. I plan to join another friend for breakfast at Charlie Brown’s, and then head to the track.
